Armenia To Host First World StartUp Cup in March 2014

(July 14, 2013 – Yerevan, Armenia) – StartUp Cup today announced that Yereven, Armenia will host the First Annual World StartUp Cup March 5 & 6, 2014. The announcement was made during a special ceremony at the close of Armenia StartUp Cup Extreme Build-A-Business Weekend.

“The World StartUp Cup is an extraordinary event designed to showcase and celebrate entrepreneurs from every conceivable industry, and in the process shine a global light on the power of entrepreneurs and startups to improve lives. Armenia was one of the first StartUp Cups ever to be held outside the United States, and it is especially fitting that they are now hosting the first annual World StartUp Cup”, said Sean Griffin, CEO and Founder of StartUp Cup.

The World StartUp Cup will bring together seven of the first place winners from local StartUp Cups around the globe. Currently there are 44 StartUp Cup Business Model Competitions in 37 countries. The first place winners from each local competition that holds their awards celebration during Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 18-22, 2013) will be eligible to enter into the World StartUp Cup competition. Winners of the local competition will compete virtually for one of the seven available spots. The selected entrepreneurs will travel to Yerevan to present their business models to an international panel of judges comprised of local StartUp Cups around the world.

Yerevan was selected from a number of interested cities from around the world based on their commitment to developing a robust ecosystem where entrepreneurship growth is a priority and celebrated. The lead host organization will be Upostrophe who is the host organization of Armenia StartUp Cup and a dedicated leader in growing the entrepreneurship community in Armenia.
